Climate change challenges and natural disasters are becoming more and more common nowadays. Snowstorms, heavy rains, long heat waves followed by long periods of drought have lead to tragic natural disasters, loss of lives and properties and heavy injuries. The Region of Central Greece has suffered a lot the past 5 years. A heavy downpour as a result of deadly storm \u201cDaniel\u201d resulted in the loss of 17 human lives, thousands of animals and the destruction of vast areas of inhabited land and cultivations. Wildfires have burnt almost one third of Evia island. Severe floods of Sperchios river, next to the city of Lamia covered a vast cultivated area and destroyed many roads and bridges. During a heavy downpour that lasted 5 hours in August 2020, central Evoia was flooded severely and 8 people lost their lives. A heavy snowstorm in eastern Greece during winter 2022 left thousands of people without electricity and transportation for 4-5 days. Houses have been destroyed because of landslides caused by heavy rains in burned forest areas. The Northern part of Serbia is prone to floods, droughts, landslides heat waves, forest fires and other extreme events. Climate change means Serbia is likely to see many more such emergencies in future. In May 2014, 51 people were killed by severe floods. ISL Lab of the University of Thessaly based in Lamia and the Center for the Promotion of Science in Serbia are very concerned about the local natural disasters, which are consequences of climate change. They wish to educate young students on the effects of climate change and the ways to mitigate it, make them more responsible and concerned about their personal foot print and help them become sustainability aware citizens. In 2015, the UN adopted 17 SDGs with the aim of addressing and tackling 17 global issues by 2030. These goals represent a call-to-action for teachers, students and other people of all ages to create a better future together. We will explore and improve our local communities by focusing on Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

This project will raise awareness in students about climate change and sustainable development. They will understand that only by their actions and choices they can mitigate the climate change from which their countries and local communities have suffered so much. They are going to propose a sustainable design about their school yard. In that way they will understand that sensible use of natural resources is something that civilians and not only governments and organizations are responsible for. They will learn which of the choices they are already making are wrong and what they could change in order to leave the least carbon footprint. They will understand that environment preservation is not a choice but a necessity. This project aims in using VR and 3d Design in education. Students will learn about serious gaming and will also create 3d models themselves. Teachers will have the chance to embed 3d design and Virtual Reality in their classes. They will develop professionally and improve the involvement of their students in the class. Students will develop their STEAM skills. The schools will be able to attend online workshops on how to develop their STEAM education importing 3d design and VR in their classes. Students and teachers will gain digital literacy and will use innovative ways of teaching.<\/p>
